We Can Help
CGC is a harbor in the storm of grief; a safe place to be with others who are grieving the death of a loved one. CGC offers support groups for children and teens ages 5 – 18 (and optional groups for their caregivers) who are grieving the death of a caregiver or sibling. These groups meet every-other-week during the school year, and break for the months of July and August.
What we do
The support groups are facilitated by trained volunteers. Group guidelines provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for participants. Guidelines include the “I Pass” rule, because talking in group is optional and no one is pressured to share. Another important guideline is confidentiality. What's said in group, stays in group.
Our Four Principles
- Grief is a natural reaction to loss of a loved one for children and teens as well as adults.
- Within each individual is the natural capacity to heal oneself.
- The duration and intensity of grief are different for each individual.
- Caring and acceptance assist in the healing process.
Orientation
Each new family that comes to the Grief Center first attends an orientation. At that time you can take a look around, meet our staff, and learn more about group guidelines and participation. This is your chance to interview us.
Orientations are held once per month on a weekday evening from 6:30 - 7:30. Any person who will attend groups must come to the orienation first. Call the office, give us your information, and we will mail you a letter with the date and details for the next orientation.
What does it cost?
We understand that often around a death, finances can be uncertain. All services at the Grief Center are provided free of charge. However, it does cost money to run the Grief Center. We estimate that it takes about $500.00 per year to put a single child through groups. We ask families to donate as they can, but no family is turned away if they cannot donate.
